Te Reo Māori Classes
Whangamata Community Marae Trust and Eastern Coromandel Community Services Trust have collaborated for the last two years to offer Te Reo classes. We have built up a great community to learn and share together.
Te Reo classes organised and delivered by the Whangamata Community Marae Trust will begin again in June 2024. See their website for more information: www.wcm.maori.nz//programmes/
Classes:
Level 1 - Beginner, suitable for those who are brand new to learning Te Reo or have a little knowledge to build on. There will be 2 beginner groups so one will be absolute beginners and the other will be those with some experience.
Level 2 - Intermediate, suitable for those who have studied Te Reo before or who have some prior knowledge to build on. For intermediate level you need to be relatively proficient with pronunciation and have some vocab to work with.
Subject material will cover te reo Māori, plus tikanga practices, a Noho Marae visit (tbc), the importance of knowing your whakapapa (so that you can create and deliver your own pepeha), plus there will be lessons on the history of the whenua and local places of significance.
Whānau friendly, children welcome.
